Alpha Testing has been announced for the new Free2Play FPS game, The Cycle, which introduces some interesting twists to a blend of familiar genres.
Yager, the development team behind “Spec Ops: The Line” and “Dreadnought” currently have their latest title in Alpha Testing. Closed Beta testing is reported to start as soon as sometime in Q2 2019, and Open beta in Q3 2019.
At surface level, The Cycle is a free online First Person Shooter (FPS) that pits you against/with up to 19 other players (or Prospectors as they are known as). The goal is to complete the most number of objectives before the world you are on collapses in on itself. Some of these can be done by collaborating with other players, some by killing them or just go it alone and do objectives on your own, but throughout the game you will have to fight back creatures roaming the world.
In each of these games, you collect resources which can be used to craft items to use in other matches, giving purpose to your prospecting.
There are elements of The Cycle that may seem familiar, but at the concept’s core is players.– Rich Stanton, Yager
It sounds like some familiar genres in there: Hero Shooter, Battle Royale, Deathmatch (if you’re that way inclined). The subtle differences and blending the genres together prevents it being able to slot firmly in to any one of those genres though. Yager instead prefer to call The Cycle a “Competitive Quester” to highlight its unique points.
