What is Vampire The Masquerade Bloodhunt?

Bloodhunt is a vampire themed, free to play, third person Battle Royale game developed and published by Sharkmob.

The game is based on the fantasy table top role playing game, Vampire The Masquerade. War has broken out among the vampires creating a fight for survival against each other and against a secret society known as the Entity who want to wipe vampires out.

What can I expect to be doing?

The vampires of Vampire The Masquerade Bloodhunt belong to one of three distinct clans - Brujah, Nosferatu and Toreador. Apart from aesthetical differences, the vampires of each clan have different approaches to attacking their victims and have different supernatural abilities to aid in combat and movement.

You play as a vampire of one these clans in the gloomy streets of Prague utilising your abilities and any weapons you can find to fight other players. This leads to fast, stylish gunplay and sneaky tactics to get the edge over your opponents.

As the game is a battle royale, you start off unarmed and must find weapons yourself - usually in vans, buildings or on rooftops. Your vampire abilities do add to the usual Battle Royale formula in interesting ways though. You can quickly scale and traverse the tall buildings of Prague and use other abilities to quickly move around the map. You can also improve your abilities by feeding on innocents you come across around the streets of Prague. This, too, adds to the formula however. Rather than simply being cattle for buffing your vampiric powers, the human NPCs you feed on can make your survival more difficult - if they witness you being vampire-y, you will be marked, revealing your position to all the other players in the game.

Initial Impressions?

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodhunt is a very pretty game with a very interesting setting and lore behind it. This lore and the vampire abilities do add to the battle royale formula in new and interesting ways. Unfortunately it is a battle royale game and the (very familiar) formula it adds to takes away from what should be an exciting title.

That said, it does have a well presented setting and premise, with slick presentation and gameplay. That could help it rise above the many other titles in its field.
